Focus for this room is obviously going to be on the act of doing the laundry and what savings can be had.
Washer:
Front load washers tend to be more water efficient that top load washers although both come in Energy Star rated models. The upfront investment in a front load will be recouped in a few years with the savings on your water and utility bills.
Dryer:
The dryer is the big energy hog in this room. The best way to save here is to make sure that your dryer has a moisture sensor, which will cause the machine to automatically shut off when everything is dry. Newer dryers with the moisture sensor cost a bit more that machines without.
Clothesline:
Line drying is the greenest way to dry your clothes, so whether you do it on a line or rack in your laundry room or hang out in your back yard, you will know you are doing the right thing for the environment when you line dry.
